This brooch began by accident. I had originally ordered a London blue topaz for another piece, but the wrong stone was delivered instead. I was told to keep it, and once the correct stone arrived, I found myself returning to the unexpected one. Looking at its shape, I immediately saw a tear. As someone who has long been drawn to drawing eyes, that association stayed with me and became the starting point for the piece. From there, the idea developed into a tear-shaped brooch, simple in concept but emotionally direct. The piece explores how unexpected materials or mistakes can redirect a process, leading to something entirely unplanned. What began as an ordering error became an intuitive response to form, memory, and instinct. In that sense, the brooch is not only about the image of a tear, but also about chance, recognition, and the quiet beginning of an idea.
